Construction Management and Engineering Consulting Services, Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis VAMC
Under this GSA Professional Services Schedule task order, LRS is the prime contractor providing construction management and engineering services to the St. Louis VA Medical Center. The total size of the area supported by LRS CM staff is 125 acres. The overall construction effort involved demolition of 18 buildings, the construction of five new buildings, and the reconfiguration of parking, roadways, and utilities.
When LRS began supporting this project, two of the five new buildings were already constructed. LRS assisted with oversight of startup of one building and commissioning services for the other building. The three remaining buildings which LRS provided full construction management services for new construction included: a clinic building with 113,000 SF of examination, treatment, and office space; 54,000 SF rehabilitation/chapel facility; and a 68,000 SF engineering warehouse. All buildings were built to LEED Gold or better standards.
Due to issues encountered post construction with the newly installed medical gas system for the clinic building, the VA implemented a separate contract to remove and reinstall the med gas system within the Clinic. LRS was requested to provide independent construction and medical gas inspection services to monitor the new installation and testing procedures. Additional concerns were raised about the installation of medical gas within the rehabilitation/Chapel building. LRS supported the inspection and verification of that work through completion.
Following completion of the vertical construction, LRS has provided engineering support to oversee road and utility relocations for expansion of the adjacent National Cemetery, as well as supporting the cemetery expansion.
